It is the responsibility of the Registered Nurse / Midwife to attain and maintain IV designation. Completion of this designation will enable you to:

  1. Administer and manage intravenous fluids, blood and blood products (+/- electronic infusion devices)
  2. Administer and manage subcutaneous fluids Reconstitute and administer IV medications (excluding controlled drugs and advanced level medications e.g. phenytoin)
  3. Restart a non-functioning IV line
  4. Change an IV access device and flush a peripheral line
  5. Remove a peripheral line

You will be awarded 2 hours professional development upon completion of the Clinical skills assessment component of this course.
