Hawkes Bay DHB Acute Care Training (2024)

Thank you to Waitemata DHB for providing us with this content.

Intended audience: All clinical staff

Duration: 60 minutes

Course expert: Kate Barnett

This course is open to all and is designed to be:

  • An acute care training tool for real ward based clinical scenarios.
  • A prerequisite to the ACT simulation study day.
  • A tool to reflect on your own acute care skills and where training or review is needed.

It is our aspiration that in completing the ACT eLearning course, you will be able to:

  • Revise basic acute physiology.
  • Practice, and build confidence with simple frameworks of care for the acutely deteriorating patient.
  • Translate the ABCDE and ISBAR approach to your own daily practice on the wards.

The Acute Care Training faculty and Patient at Risk (PAR) are committed gold standard observation taking as well as timely NZEWS score escalation. It must be remembered that your own critical thinking and contribution to the deteriorating ward patient is essential. NZEWS is a guide and must not take away from your own concerns and prompt escalation of care.

Our expectation is that you:

complete the NZEWS learning module

complete the Airvo learning module

complete the CALM communications learning module

complete the ACT e-learning module prior to attending the ACT course.
