MidCentral - Palliative Care Syringe Driver Competency

This training module will provide you with the rationale for the use of a syringe driver and guidelines for management and care of a person with a syringe driver. It will also include information about medications and drug calculations.

Audience

This course programme is applicable to registered nurses practicing in a variety of settings, including hospice, hospital, aged residential care and community settings, who may need to manage people with a syringe driver. Enrolled nurses are encouraged to complete the programme, however they need to work within their scope of practice.

Initial certification and annual update training involves:

  • Completion of the Niki T34 modules
  • Completion of this Syringe Driver Competency Programme (Modules 1-3)
  • Completion of the drug calculation test 

Followed by:

  • Attendance at a practical workshop once completed the above requirements.

Learners must start and finish this course in the same calendar year.
