This course is for clinical staff providing care to patients with PCA analgesia therapy. Objectives are:

1. Understand acute pain and principles of patient centred  pain management
2. Describe the appropriateness of PCA use
3. Describe Indications and contraindications of PCA use
4. Demonstrate ongoing patient assessment and management of a patient using a PCA
5. Describe the common medications used in a PCA, and rationale for use
6. Understand the key documentation required for patients receiving analgesia via a PCA
