This course is for recording and sign off of the practical assessment element of Peripheral IV.

The overall aim of this course is to prepare you for arterial line management and pressure monitoring.

On completion you will be able to:

    • identify indications for an arterial line
    • prepare a set prior to insertion
    • support a clinician inserting an arterial line
    • connect up an arterial line to a monitor for intra-arterial blood pressure monitoring
    • sample safely from an arterial line
    • care for a patient with an arterial line
    • identify when and how arterial monitoring should be discontinued.

    This practical assessment is for all clinical staff administering blood and blood products at Nelson Marlborough.

    This IV Cannulation and Venepuncture course is for all qualified nurses and midwives.
    This CVAD Assessment course is all qualified nurses and midwives who have their IV Level 1 competency and who are required to use Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD). Clinicians are required to be on the CVAD register before administering IV medications or fluids into a CVAD, undertaking general management of a CVAD or removing a CVAD.
    This course is for Registered nurses and midwives who are required to access & deaccess Implanted Ports.
    This course is for all clinical staff involved in prescribing or administering blood in emergency situations
    This course is for Registered nurses who are required to provide Therapeutic Venesection/Phlebotomy services
