Restraints are not considered a therapeutic intervention and should be avoided.  As a service provider, Health NZ has a responsibility to aim for a restraint and seclusion free environment. If your role involves direct patient contact or you work in a patient facing role, this course is required learning to ensure you provide patient care that adheres to legislation around patient restraint.
