The overall aim of this course is to
- be able to understand inequity disabled people face
- become a role model, ally, and to gain methods to minimise barriers
- understand what inclusive healthcare looks like
Research consistently shows that disabled people have poorer health outcomes than non-disabled people and do not receive appropriate health care. Disabled people are a priority population who face socio-economic factors that are barriers to obtaining healthcare. Low levels of societal awareness are a primary barrier that maintain the status quo. Healthcare staff can make adaptations to their clinical practice which enhance disabled people's journey through the health system.
