Insulin Safety

Insulin is used to treat people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and it is estimated that about 25% of people with diabetes are treated with insulin.

Type 1 diabetes is when your body has stopped producing insulin. People with type 1 diabetes need to inject insulin to live. Type 2 diabetes is when your cells have become insulin resistant, or your body does not produce enough insulin to keep you healthy.

At Counties Manukau there are currently over 15 different insulins in use, many have similar sounding names, however they differ in how quickly and how long they act.

Audience: This course is designed for all nurses who will be caring for patients with diabetes to give them an understanding and awareness of insulin and the impact it has on patients.
