About: 

This course is designed for nurses who are working within the Waitematā DHB Critical Care Services as ventilator competent and progressing towards taking care of the more acutely critical ill patient requiring CRRT or as a resource for the annual eCompetence.

It aims to improve the ICU Nurses' knowledge regarding Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and their level of competency in taking care of the patient requiring Renal Replacement Therapy.

By the end of this course the learner will be:

  • Familiar with the Renal Anatomy &Physiology

  • Able to understand continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

  • Name common clinical indications of CRRT in the unit

  • Assist ICU team during insertion of vascular catheter

  • Initiate, manage and end therapy for patient

  • Monitor for possible complications

  • Troubleshoot problems

About: This critical care Simulation day is aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of the critical care nurses and RMOs working in ICU. 

By the end of the day the participant would have practiced:


  • Recognising the deterioration and appropriate escalation of the critically ill patient.

  • The use of the three communication modules: ISBAR, Pacer and Snappi

  • Leadership skills

  • ACLS and RSI applied

  • Specialised ICU procedures facilitated through workshops.
