ALS - Advanced Responder Recertification - Practical

  • SMO are recommended every 3 years
  • Registrars and House officers.
  • Nurses working in LCC, CVU, ECC, ADU , ICU, HDU, PACU, Transit care, DNM, PaR team.
  • Anaesthetic Technicians

Duration: 4 hours

Valid for: 2 years (can be repeated annually)

What you can expect :

  • Applying practical skills of Resuscitation that support management of Adult and Pediatric collapse, AED, manual Defibrillation and Airway adjuncts.
  • Participating in scenarios for the management of collapse and medical emergencies within a safe learning environment. 

The overall aim of this course is to  provide you with a basic understanding of the Shared goals of care process and introduce the tool-Serious illness conversation guide (SICG) . This will support you when having discussions that involve what the patient and Whanau want in their treatment. The SICG is a national directive and is one of the tools that as health professionals we can use to reduce and dismantle health inequities and role model best practice.

Who is this for: All staff who engage with patients and can document on  "Shared goals of care plan" pg 2

Time: 3 hour course. Please complete the eLearning on Ko Awatea before the course Shared goals of care using the serious illness conversation guide e-learning. You will receive pre-course information 2 weeks prior.  Professional Development hours is 1.5 hour online and 3 hours face to face.

  • Assessments including theory test and practical assessments on Rhythms, Manual Defibrillation, Airway adjuncts, BLS for Adult and Pediatrics.
