About this course:
Kia ora! The overall aim of this course is to encourage staff to follow the correct steps according to the protocol.
By the end of this course the WTK ED RN will be able to:
- Competently initate the correct steps of the DKA / HHS Pathways on patient admission
- Correctly state the number of IV Cannula to be inserted
- State the Progressive steps in the treatment of a patient presenting with DKA / HHS Pathways
- Correctly show they are able to safely set up IV Fluids and concurrent fluid infusion preparations
- Identify the safety steps required within the DKA/HHS Pathways (e.g. Hourly BLS while on Insulin infusion and correct documentation necessary)
- Identify the need for continued use of Lantus
- Identify what treatment is necessary for patient developing Hypoglycaemia

Information: Modules are part of Orientation programme for Waitakere ED. Able to be repeated while moving through various areas of department orientation.
