About this framework:

Kia ora! The aim of this framework is to equip the health workforce with the basic skills and knowledge associated in caring for patients with COVID-19. We recommend all staff complete their requirements in the framework based on the guides below. Confirm with your manager or educator the completion requirements for your role.

1 (one) hour

This course is open to all and is designed to be:

  • An acute care training tool for real ward based clinical scenarios.
  • A prerequisite to the ACT simulation study day.
  • A tool to reflect on your own acute care skills and where training or review is needed.

It is our aspiration that in completing the ACT eLearning course, you will be able to:

  • Revise basic acute physiology.
  • Practice, and build confidence with simple frameworks of care for the acutely deteriorating patient.
  • Translate the ABCDE and ISBAR approach to your own daily practice on the wards.

Our expectation is that you:

  • complete the e-learning module prior to attending the ACT course.

Intended Audience

Clinical staff such as physiotherapists, nursing, medical and other allied health professionals caring for or treating COVID-19 patients. 


This blended learning programme is designed to equip healthcare professionals to have an understanding of the indications and purpose of CPAP and BiPAP NIV in patients with COVID.

An in person session with an NIV champion or trainer in your workplace is then required to become confident in setting up and applying CPAP and BiPAP before sign off.

The aim of this module is to improve the delivery of Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) care within the ward environment, and to reduce mortality and ensure patient safety by better adherence to guidelines.

This module will standardise and improve the practices of those healthcare professionals involved in the provision of NIV care. It is designed to be completed as part of the COVID-19 learning framework.

Registered nurses and other healthcare professionals needing to use the the Philips V60 NIV machine.
