Kia ora! The aim of this Skills Day Programme is to familiarize participants outside the WDHB NSH ICU/HDU with the routine and standards at the bed space within the ICU/HDU setting. This day, in conjunction with the eLearning, will provide the participants with the hands-on experience needed to perform practical skills in a manner that promotes patient safety but also ensure staff support in an unfamiliar environment.
This Skills Day Programme is designed for nurses who are working within the WDHB Acute Care Services i.e.
- PACU Nurses
- Anesthetic Technicians
- Acute Surgical Wards Nurses
- ICU Nurses more than 3 years out of the Critical Care Service
as part of the NZ Critical Care Pandemic Relief Team Resources for the COVID Learning Framework.

About this course
The aim of this module is to improve the delivery of Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) care within the ICU/HDU environment, and to reduce mortality and ensure patient safety by better adherence to guidelines.
This module will standardise and improve the competencies of those healthcare professionals involved in the provision of NIV care.
This module is designed to be completed as part of the COVID learning framework.

- Contraindication for NIV
- Modes of NIV
- Nursing care of the NIV patient
- Operating the Hamilton-C1
All components need to be completed and quizzes passed for a certificate of completion to be issued.
