About this course:

The overall aim of this course is to increase your awareness and skills when working with resistance in supervision.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify supervisee resistance within supervision and its function
  • Know the core principles of strength based theory
  • Integrate strength based questions into supervision practice
  • Identify your own resistance and the type of questions that work well (or not well) in your own supervision practice

Intended audience: Allied health and other trained supervisors

Prerequisites: Practicing supervisors who have completed the 2 ½ day Allied Health Supervisor Training at least four to five (4-5) years ago

Duration: 7 hours

About this course:

The purpose of the refresher course is to revisit core concepts of professional supervision for those who have already completed the Allied Health Supervisor Training and to further develop their supervision practice. By the end of the training participants will have had the opportunity to:

  • Review their knowledge and practical application of the key components of engagement and contracting in supervision 
  • Deepen and broaden their supervision skills and interventions in an experiential learning environment 
  • To apply the reflective learning model of supervision in a recorded session and participate in the peer review process

About this course:

Te Pou is a strengths based supervision framework that supports the supervisor and supervisee to know what their existing strengths and resources are by naming them under four specific pou. By identifying and acknowledging these, both supervisee and supervisor have at their fingertips easy access to valuable resource. Supervisee and supervisor have an increased sense of security in that they already have everything they need to find successful solutions to any concerns. 

Te Pou is based on a very old karakia from Te Tokerau. The karakia seeks support and sustenance, provision and protection, while understanding the challenges and barriers.

The overall purpose of the allied health supervisee training is to support new Te Whatu Ora Waitematā employees to maximise the benefits of supervision for themselves, their patients/whānau and the wider organisation. The allied health supervisee training uses a ‘blended learning’ approach, meaning it is delivered via an initial e-Learning module followed by a face to face workshop, adding to a total course time of three (3) hours.
