Kia ora, welcome to the Venepuncture Theory Course for Te Toka Tumai Auckland District Health Board. This course is for all staff at Auckland DHB who perform peripheral intravenous (IV) cannulation and/or phlebotomy as part of their clinical role.

This course outlines the theoretical knowledge and techniques necessary for attaining competency in peripheral intravenous (IV) cannulation and/or phelbotomy. The term venepuncture in this context refers to the puncturing of a vein for either phlebotomy or peripheral IV cannulation.

• The Venepuncture Theory course is worth 30 minutes of Professional Development time
• The IV Cannulation Theory course is worth 1 hour of Professional Development time
• The IV Cannulation Skill Validation course is worth 30 minutes of Professional Development time
• The Phlebotomy Theory course is worth 1 hour of Professional Development time
• The Phlebotomy Skill Validation course is worth 30 minutes of Professional Development time
