Venous Thromboembolism Prevention and Care

Kia ora! The overall aim of this course is to share with you some resources  to guide best practice when caring for patients with suspected or confirmed Venous thromboembolism (VTE). 


Venous thromboembolism (VTE) includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and/or pulmonary embolism (PE) which occurs in approximately one is 1000 people per year. Of these, more than 40% have clear identifiable risk factors such as trauma, immobility, cancer, surgery or pregnancy. 


The expectations of this course are that you will: 

  • discuss with your preceptor/nurse educator/manager the current best practice for the care and management of patients with suspected or confirmed venous thromboembolism in your clinical setting 
  • access resources available on Hippo related to VTE
