The scope includes all nursing staff at Auckland District Health Board. Its purpose is to ensure that urethral catheterisation is performed safely by designated nurses.
Course content relates to learning about the equipment and the procedure safe practice.
Urethral catheterisation of males is only undertaken by nurses who have received instruction and have been assessed for competence in the procedure by a trained auditor.
