This course is an expression of the ADHB Board Policy manual: Facilities and Equipment section 3. In particular, to ensure appropriate training of personnel.

Personnel regularly required to be present during LASER operation or maintenance are required to have training relevant to their specific needs and responsibilities.

  • LASER users, e.g. surgeons, physicians, dentists, nurses and other allied health professionals; 
  • LASER operators, e.g. nurse and other team members· 
  • LASER system service personnel e.g. biomedical engineers, technicians· 
  • Incidental personnel, including medical photographers, observers, students, family members, and industry representatives.

This mandatory learning package is intended for all nurses working in the ADHB operating room environment. 

About the course:                                                                

This mandatory learning is for all clinical staff work in perioperative area at Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland. 

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Familiarize yourself with the "Count Policy for Surgical Procedures" at Te Toka Tumai Auckland
  • Understand your professional responsibilities when participating in surgical counts   
  • Understand the general principles of surgical counts
  • Understand the protocol for managing count discrepancies 
  • Prevent the potential for patient harm due to retained foreign bodies  

This programme assesses knowledge of patient pre-operative check-in competencies within the context of ADHB Policy.

The overall aim of this course is to familiarise clinicians to the surgical count policy at Te Toka Tumai Auckland.
