About this course

This training program is to provide an opportunity for every person working in mental health and addiction treatment service to develop practitioner skills level competency in working with service users and their family/whanau. The goal is for every clinician to encourage and support families/whanau to participate in the recovery of service users, and ensure that families/whanau, including the children of service users, have access to information, education and support.


Please note: Prior to signing up to attend this course please ensure you have discussed with your manager and gained approval to attend so that appropriate measures are taken to manage staff cover in your absence from your role.

This course guides learners through application of the BUILD feedback model through interactive video scenarios. Learners are shown different scenarios where feedback might be given covering rudeness, bullying, performance management and safety. They are asked to choose from a selection of options what should happen next and are taken through a series of potential outcomes until they reach the best possible outcome.

Targeted audience: Those staff who have already completed Foundations of Kinder or Great Feedback, Great Results

  • To practice further the BUILD model introduced in Foundations of Kinder Feedback
  • To demonstrate real world scenarios where the BUILD model can be practiced effectively
  • To illustrate how giving feedback in the wrong way can lead to undesirable outcomes

  • In patient staff clinical staff who work closely with service users with suspected or diagnosed FASD
  • Open to all SMH&AS staff who work with service users with suspected or diagnosed FASD

About this course:

This in-service was delivered by Dr Valerie McGinn on 17th October 2019 at He Puna Wairoa for SMH&AS staff. The aim of the presentation was to equip relevant staff to gain more understanding about FASD and to be able to better work with services users who present with FASD or FASD symptoms.

As part of the System Level Measures Improvement Programme, continuing medical education or continuing nursing education delivered by Primary Healthcare Organisations on topics relevant to the programme have been filmed and supplied here for educational purposes. This enables all PHOs regionally to benefit from each others’ various CME/CNE activities.

About this course:

This course is designed to be a Finance101 for managers or aspiring managers. It covers the concept of departmental budgets, and demonstrates tools as to how to analyse and understand budgets, service's financial results, and a comparison between the two for variance analysis. It will be a high level introduction to the tools and reports available, and managers would then be expected to do more specific service catered training with their service business partners.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understanding what a budget is and what budget variance reporting is
  • Knowing which resources to use when investigating different aspects of financial information

Kia ora! As part of government Evacuation Scheme Regulations, Te Toka Tumai Auckland is obliged to conduct regular fire drills and provide theory training for building occupants. 

Fire drill is for Staged Evacuation Zone only. Please check your fire action card and book the correct training. (If you are in a Total Evacuation Zone, please head to Trial Evacuation Training booking page)

This training should take around 30 minutes to complete and will conclude with a quick debrief with staff involved. We expect building occupants to respond to the alarm in the manner described in the Emergency Preparedness & Response Manual (EPARM) and the Warden Action Cards. Please remember that while these drills audit the general competence of staff, they also check that the evacuation procedures and resources are fit for purpose. Individuals will not be singled out. If the need for remedial training is revealed it will be arranged with the relevant department supervisors.

Below are the fire warden responsibilities we will be covering at the training:

  • Understand the R.A.C.E Procedure
  • Understand how Visual Display Panel (VDP) and Manual Call Points (MCPs) work and the importance of these devices
  • Understand the difference between Staged Evacuation and Total Evacuation procedures
  • Be able to locate and utilise the Warden Action Card (WAC)
  • Monitor evacuation routes, check the routes and fire doors are kept free of obstructions, and report all fire hazards without delay
  • Monitor the emergency resources to keep them up-to-date and fit for purpose

WDHB CourseIntended audience: This 1st Aid Course is designed for all staff who might have to provide first aid to other staff, patients or visitors.

Duration: 1 hour

About this course: At the end of this on-line 1st Aid course you will have the  knowledge you need to recognise common clinical emergencies and know how to manage them until help arrives.

There is no face-to-face component to this course and it does not cover basic life support (CPR) or management of choking which can be found in the mandatory WDHB Basic Life Support Module.

Each module in the course takes about 2-3 minutes. There is a mandatory quiz at the end of the course;  you need to achieve 80% in the quiz to receive your certificate.

If you would like further theoretical/practical knowledge and skills in the recognition of clinical emergencies, we recommend you enrol in a workplace first aid course through St John or the Red Cross. Enrolment in external training should be discussed  with your manager as you might be required to self-fund.



This is a teaching tool for nurses who are orientating to Neonatal Care. Its purpose is to help you understand fluid volumes ensuring optimal growth and calorie intake which is important with infants cared for in the neonatal unit. The teaching tool is based on Neonatal Care guidelines and breastfeeding guidelines.

General Fire Update is a face-to-face training delivered by a member of Emergency Management Service (EMS). This needs to completed SIX monthly for all services under Te Toka Tumai Auckland.

This training should be booked at the service-level and is NOT to be booked by an individual without the service's arrangement. The training sessions typically take around 20-30 minutes and cover general fire safety and the evacuation procedure for your area. 

On completion you will be able to:

  • Understand how the building detects, protects and suppresses fire

  • Understand the fire alarm system in your service and how they operate

  • Describe your evacuation process and your role to support this

Upon completion, your training record will automatically be recorded on Kiosk. This gets updated in the first week of the following month, so please do not worry if you do not see anything come through immediately.
