The PCEA Course for Midwifery is a prerequisite for the Midwifery Acute Pain Service (MAPS) Workshop. The course provides a refresher on Patient  Controlled Epidural Analgesia.
Midwives working in Birthing and Assessment and Maternity Wards at CMDHB must complete the MAPS credentialing process on commencing employment or when rotating to these services. MAPS credentialing involves passing the online quiz at the end of this course, attending the face-to-face MAPS study day and passing the practical assessment. The midwife educator will then record completion of these requirements on Onestaff.
LMC midwives and experienced staff are also welcome to join the MAPS day for a PCEA update.

About:This 8 hour workshop aims to advance participants' basic knowledge of pelvic health and provide practical tools to immediately integrate this knowledge into clinical practice. You will learn about types of pelvic floor dysfunctions, maternal birth injuries and how to complete basic screening for pelvic health conditions. We will review exercise guidelines for pregnancy and the post-partum timeframes, as well as the current recommendations for DRAM (diastasis recti) and pelvic girdle pain (SPD).

Common myths will be debunked, and you’ll be updated with the latest evidence. You'll learn how to adjust your care to account for pelvic health conditions as well as learn how to initiate pelvic floor muscle training programmes.
